Plaintiff lost control of his motorcycle when it came into contact with a trench carved out around a manhole cover in the middle of the Torrence Avenue in the city of Chicago. The city failed to repair the trench or barricade the area to safeguard motorists on the roadway. The plaintiff underwent six surgeries on his right leg, including skin grafts and suffered third-degree burns from the exhaust pipe on his left leg.
The plaintiff was riding his motorcycle southbound on Western Avenue in the city of Chicago when a tractor-trailer truck unexpectedly turned left in front of him. The plaintiff collided into side of the trailer causing his untimely death.
A 9-year-old girl was run over by a tractor-trailer truck while walking through a Walgreen’s parking lot, resulting in severe crushing and degloving injuries to her pelvis and lower extremities. A settlement was reached with the trucking company for its negligent operation of the truck and the property owner based on the defective design and permitted use of the parking lot.
The plaintiff was walking beside a parade float in Chicago’s Gay Pride Parade, which failed to stop when the crowd along the parade route converged on the flotilla resulting in the float crashing into the plaintiff, breaking his leg.

A 3rd grader was run over by a school bus while crossing the street at a four-way intersection. The bus had just picked up children at a designated stop, moved forward to the stop sign and then proceeded to turn left at the intersection striking the plaintiff as he crossed the street in the crosswalk.
This settlement represents a record high in Winnebago County for a case of this nature.
A 13-year-old boy was struck and killed by a garbage truck while riding his bicycle along Harlem Avenue near the L tracks at Lake Street.
DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED
Plaintiff, a 48-year-old man, was riding his bicycle on Madison Avenue near the United Center at about midnight when the defendant’s vehicle hit the concrete divider in the middle of the street causing it to flip in mid air and land on top of the plaintiff. The plaintiff suffered severe brain damage and a fractured pelvis rendering him disabled. The defendant was charged at the scene with aggravated driving under the influence.
A 59-year-old woman was injured in a holiday boating collision on the Chain O Lakes in Lake County, Illinois. A boat traveling in excess of the permissible speed became airborne and drove over the top of the parked boat in which plaintiff was riding. A result of the collision, plaintiff suffered several compression factures in her spine, a cervical injury and a shoulder injury.
